Kia, the South Korean conglomerate, is working to expand its electric vehicle lineup to international markets. Kia has released the first exterior images of the production-ready Kia PV5 Electric Van passenger and cargo van. The mid-size model is the first in Kia’s upcoming lineup of purpose-built electric vans that are expected to shake up the growing market.

The PV5 was first shown at last year’s CES show. Based on Kia’s PBV (Platform Beyond Vehicle), the vehicle will debut alongside the brand’s other future products at Kia EV Day in Tarragona, Spain, on February 27. The modular electric van joins Kia’s lineup as a competitor to VW’s ID.Buzz van. But the brand has now released the first official images of the vehicle.

The vehicle’s design is very similar to the concept van showcased by the brand at CES 2024. The mid-size van will be available in three body styles and “several” configurations, starting with passenger and cargo versions, with special conversion models to be added down the line. From the exterior images Kia has released, we can tell that both the passenger and cargo versions have a common front end, with a long, flat profile that certainly offers gobs of headroom.

Speaking of design, the Kia PV5 Electric Van brings the brand’s signature design language that follows a minimalist pattern complemented by lots of glass areas. The front fascia of the car consists of vertical DRLs running along the hood of the car. Meanwhile, the EV’s headlights are embedded in the lower bumper that fills the gap just above the lower grille.

The massive windows that span the entire passenger model add to the modern look, but also make it easy to see while driving. Speaking of the rear of the van, the passenger version has a lift-up tailgate, which makes loading and unloading easier.

The added black geometric wheel arch claddings and rocker panels give the PV5 a slightly rugged, off-road feel. Along with this, the wheels are designed to be aerodynamically efficient, which is seen in most modern EVs. Similarly, the rear end of the car comes with a simple design with vertically stacked tail lamps grabbing the most attention.

The brand is yet to reveal the interior and mechanical details of the EV, which will be underpinned by the Electric Complete Chassis Platform Module (E-CCPM). We are also waiting for interior photos. At the event, Kia will also introduce a smaller, more affordable EV2 concept as well as EV4 electric sedan and hatchback models. Along with this, the brand is also expected to reveal its future plans for electric vehicles.
