While OpenAI has not acknowledged the outage, according to Downdetector, a service that tracks outages, there has been a significant spike in complaints about ChatGPT being offline, with over 3,000 reports submitted.
Several users took to social media sites to complain that artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot Chat GPT is down. Users on social media site X complained that they were not able to access the site.
The outages appear to be affecting not only Chat GPT but also other OpenAI services. This suggests that the company’s GPT-4o and GPT-4o mini models may also be experiencing downtime.
This is the third time ChatGPT has faced a major outage since December. In December, ChatGPT suffered a massive outage in the United States (US), resulting in glitches in additional DeepAI services as well. The AI platform went down twice due to a technical outage in December.
What caused the outage
OpenAI is still investigating the issue and has not revealed the exact reason behind the outage. Media reports suggest that users began experiencing intermittent issues early Thursday, with many unable to log in or access the website. Currently, attempting to visit chat.openai.com results in a “bad gateway” error.
