A strong tremor was felt in Delhi at 5:36 am today. The magnitude of the tremor was 4.0 on the Richter scale.The epicentre was located near Durgabai Deshmukh College of Special Education in Dhaula Kuan, an official informed PTI.

According to initial reports, the epicenter of the tremor was just 5 kilometers below the surface in New Delhi. However, it is not yet known whether any damage was caused by the earthquake. Many residents of Delhi came out despite the cold weather after feeling the strong tremors before daylight. Fears of another tremor have spread among the general public.

Delhi Earthquake Today: The Dhaula Kuan region, which has a lake nearby, has experienced smaller, low-magnitude quakes every two to three years. In 2015, a 3.3 magnitude earthquake was recorded there, the official added.He added that a loud sound was also heard when the earthquake hit.

A passenger waiting at the New Delhi station said, “The tremors lasted for about ten seconds. But they were very strong. Everything around was shaking. It felt like a train was moving very fast from below.”
Delhi Earthquake Today: Many passengers were waiting at the New Delhi station when the earthquake struck. Many of them came out of the station in panic.
One of them said, “The tremors were so strong that it felt like a bridge or something big had collapsed.”
A resident of Ghaziabad told news agency ANI, “The shaking was so strong that it felt like something would come out of the ground.”
Delhi Earthquake Today: Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to remain calm and stay alert for possible aftershocks.He assured that authorities are closely monitoring the situation.
“Tremors were felt in Delhi and nearby areas. Urging everyone to stay calm and follow safety precautions, staying alert for possible aftershocks. Authorities are keeping a close watch on the situation,” he wrote on X.

Several political leaders mentioned experiencing the earthquake tremors and prayed for everyone’s safety.
Acting Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said a “strong earthquake just hit” Delhi and prayed that everyone was safe.
Resharing Atishi’s post, AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal said, “I pray for the safety of everyone.”
Delhi Earthquake Today: The Delhi Police posted on X, “We hope you all are safe, Delhi!” and advised citizens to use the the emergency 112 helpline if needed.

According to initial reports, there are no reports of major damage from the earthquake. However, residents said that houses were shaking dangerously.
