Jibanananda Das 126th Birth Anniversary: Celebrating the Iconic Poet of Beautiful Bengal’s Legacy

Today is the 126th Birth Anniversary of Jibananda Das, one of the best poets of Bengali literature.

Jibanananda Das:

Jibanananda Das, known as the ‘Ruposi Banglar Kabi’ (Poet of Beautiful Bengal), was born on 17 February 1899 in Barisal. Which is often considered to be the greatest poet of the later era for his contribution to Bengali literature. Jibanananda Das belonged to the group of poets named ‘Kallol’ who tried to shake off Rabindranath Tagore’s poetic influence, and to many, Rabindranath Tagore and Kazi Nazrul Islam were considered the most read poet in Bangladesh and West Bengal.

Although the poet does not receive much praise in his lifetime, his unique talent has been characterized by his premature death by discovering many manuscripts of his manuscript.

Jivananda Das started writing poetry at an early age. When he was a student, his poem titled Barsa Abahan was published in the ‘Brahmabadi’ in April 1919. Many of his poems inspired the feeling of rebellion in Bangla ethnicity, especially after his departure and during the liberation war of Bangladesh.

Banalta Sen‘ is famous for his poetic creation, his other poetic compilation includes ‘Jhar Palk‘, ‘Gray Manuscript‘, ‘Banalta Sen‘, ‘Mahaprativi‘, ‘Satti Tara Shim‘, ‘Rupsi Bangala‘ and ‘Bella Abela Kulbela‘.

Although basically a poet, a compilation of the Jibanananda Das essay, 21 novels and 108 short stories. Many of his novels, including Maliban, Sutrita and others, were published posthumously. His finished works have been published in 12 volumes of Jibanananda Das in Kolkata, India.

Jibanananda Das died in a road accident in Kolkata on October 22, 1954, at the age of 55.
