The wounds are still burning! Meanwhile, another disaster has struck. The day after the stampede, a fire broke out near Chamanganj Chowki outside Sector 22Sector 22 of the fair. At least 15 tents were burnt. The fire brigade reached the spot on receiving the news. Administration officials are also present.
It is unclear how the fire started. According to local sources, a fire broke out in a tent in sector number 22 of the Kumbh Mela on Thursday afternoon. The fire spread quickly from there. About 15 tents were burnt near Chamanganj in the fair area. It is reported that there was no loss of life as there were no people.

“We got information about a fire in 15 tents under the Chatnag Ghat Police Station area, today. Taking immediate action, the fire was brought under control and doused. As per the SDM, it was an unauthorised tent which was erected here. The situation is under control. There was no casualty in the incident,” UP Fire Department official Pramod Sharma said.

At least 30 people lost their lives and over 60 were injured in a tragic pre-dawn stampede at the Sangam area of the Mahakumbh early Wednesday. Out of the 30 dead, 25 have been identified. During the Mauni Amavasya, one of the most significant bathing days of the festival, the rush to take ‘Amrit Snan’ started at the confluence of three rivers. This led to the disaster. Many pilgrims were injured in the incident, and many fell ill due to the pressure of the crowd.
DIG Maha Kumbh Vaibhav Krishna said the police are actively preparing for the upcoming Amrit Snan on Basant Panchami (February 3), ensuring tighter security measures within the mela area.
“In anticipation of the large crowd expected, we are reinforcing the deployment of police personnel and security forces,” he said.
