Padma Awards – one of the highest civilian Awards of the country, are conferred in three categories, namely, Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri Late folk singer Sharda Sinha former CEO of Suzuki Motor, late Osamu Suzuki to be awarded Padma Vibhushan.

113 are awarded with Padma Vibhushan, 19 with Padma Bhushan and 7, Padma Vibhushan; M. T. Vasudevan Nair, Osamu Suzuki and Sharda Sinha are posthumously awarded with Padma Vibhushan

The awards are given in various disciplines, such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service etc. The awards are announced on the eve of the Republic Day by the President of India.

Padma Vibhushan, the highest honour among the Padma awards, is conferred for exceptional and distinguished service, Padma Bhushan for distinguished service of high order, and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field.

When the final list of the Padma awards was released, 113 people were awarded with Padma Shri award, 19 with Padma Bhushan and 7 with Padma Vibhushan awards.

30 unsung heroes awarded Padma Shri

A 100-year old freedom fighter from Goa, a Dhak player from West Bengal who trained 150 women in the male-dominated field and India’s first woman puppeteers are among 30 unsung heroes who were awarded Padma Shri, a government statement said on Saturday.

Chairman of Prime Minister’s Economic Advisory Council and Economist Bibek Debroy, former Maharashtra CM Manohar Joshi, singer Pankaj Udhas and former Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi to be awarded Padma Bhushan Posthumously.

Former Indian hockey player PR Sreejesh, Sadhvi Ritambhara, actor S. Ajith Kumar and film director Shekhar Kapur to also be awarded with Padma Bhushan.

Libia Lobo Sardesai, who played an important role in Goa’s freedom movement, cofounded an underground radio station — ‘Voz da Liberdabe (Voice of Freedom)‘ — in a forested area in 1955 to rally people against the Portuguese rule
