Salwan Momika, an Iraqi involved in quran burning, was shot dead on Wednesday night.
Salwan Momika, an Iraqi man who carried out several Quran burnings in Sweden, has died, a judge in Stockholm confirmed on Thursday. The Stockholm district court postponed Thursday’s verdict in a case where he was a defendant.
Swedish media identified the victim as Salwan Momika. “A man was found shot in a home in Hovsjo in Sodertalje late on Wednesday. It is 38-year-old Salwan Momika, who has died from gunshot wounds,” Swedish state media stated.
In 2023, Salwan, 38, carried out multiple Quran burnings in Sweden. Videos of the Quran burnings sparked worldwide controversy and anger, particularly in several Muslim-majority countries, leading to riots and protests.
Momika had said argued in the court that his protests were against the religion of Islam, not Muslims, and that he wanted to protect Sweden’s people from the messages in the Quran.

The Stockholm District Court announced that a verdict in a trial in which Momika was a defendant, scheduled for Thursday, was postponed due to the defendant’s death.
